A "must" for every Chitpavan family: a heirloom for your family
An ideal gift for the Chitpavans for weddings, Upnayan, Birthdays, or for any occasion

We are proud to present to you  "Chitpavanism," the first volume of the "Encyclopedia Maharashtrica."

A Proud HERITAGE: If you are going to leave one thing for your children this is that book. No material assets, silver, or gold could replace the everlasting genetic information of who we really are. Germany and Japan were the most devastated countries in the world after the World War II. Fifty years later they are again the leaders. It is in the genes. This book describes genetics, culture, history, landscape, religion, diseases, famous people, etc., of the Chitpavan community. This is a massive scientific and meticulously compiled detailed work. This book tells you everything about the Chitpavans as far as we know today. This unique book is first of its kind in the entire world for any small community. The research is just begun in many areas and will continue.  Up to date material is collected from all over the world over the last 20 years.

A GIFT: This book is also designed as a gift item for friends, relatives, parents, children, or for any occasion; even for your boss or your associates who may want to know more about your culture. An ideal gift for weddings, Upnayan, birthdays, Diwali, or Christmas. It is the most detailed, unbiased and thoroughly researched scientific work on the Chitpavans. It is organized in a coffee table glossy book format which you can proudly display to share with your friends and family. Tell your friends that the book is now available for purchase. There is something of interest for the Chitpavans and non-Chitpavans alike from ages 8 to 80.

A COLLECTOR'S EDITION: This is an exclusive all color custom printed limited edition with over 600 illustrations, graphics, photos etc. The books are sold on first come first serve basis. Only this edition is sponsored, funded, and subsidized by dixitfamily.com. So order whatever number of books you want  right now when printing is still going on. ........Subj:  your marvelous book
Dear Dr. Dixit,
I can't thank you enough for the complimentary copy of your impressive work Chitpavanism? I don't know of any source that even comes close in detail of information and production quality to this work. How did you find the time in your busy medical practice to produce such a volume? It must have been the product of years of research and writing.  I look forward to consulting this work regularly, sharing it with our students who will going to India and calling it to the attention of my colleagues who work in Maharashtra. It will be a source that I will ask our ACM office to purchase when I am in Pune next summer.  Since many of our students stay with Chitpavan families.

I have to add that this is fitting gift for me, as my teacher and guide in the pursuit of my studies in India was Dr. Mahadev Apte of Duke University from whom I learned much about this community. Of course, nothing I've learned so far approaches the depth of information in your work.

Congratulations on the production of this major work and thank you for sending it to me.  Is there a vol II in preparation?

With all good wishes,

From the President of the American Institute of Indian Studies, Chicago:

October 17, 2003

Dear Dr. Dixit,

Thank you very much for the beautiful and impressive book on the
Chitpavans.  It happens that Maureen Patterson taught me much of what
I knew about India before I went for the first time in 1960.  Since I
am an anthropologist, I went to Pune to meet Dr. Irawati Karve on my
first arrival in India.  I later had much to do with Dr. D. D. Karve,
who was the first Indian Director of the organization which I now
have the honor of serving as President.  In short, I am well
acquainted with a good many of the contributions made by Chitpavan
Brahmans to modern India.  Nevertheless, I see that I have much more
to learn from your valuable book.

By coincidence, I am leaving tonight on my way to spend three weeks
in Pune.  Unfortunately, it appears from your letter that the book
will not be available in Pune until about December 1.  If by any
chance it is available before the middle of November, I can suggest
it to some of the students.

Congratulations and best wishes,

Ralph W. Nicholas
